A diverse performing artist, Vanessa performs in opera, musical theater, concerts, and recitals. She recently completed an eight-month residency with Opera Colorado as an Artist in Residence. Vanessa performed and covered Nannetta in Falstaff, created the role of Mrs. Soep and covered Ina Soep in the world premiere opera Steal a Pencil for Me, performed Adina in The Elixir of Love and debuted Clorinda in the premiere of Cinderella (touring productions), and covered Musetta in La Bohème with the company. She has been the soprano soloist in Rutter’s Magnificat, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, and Bach’s cantata Der Her denket an uns, BWV 196. Vanessa will be returning to Arizona Opera this season as an Education Teaching Artist, performing in touring productions and community events. An avid pianist of vocal music and opera, Taylor has been a pianist and coach with the Bay View Music Festival, The Franco-American Vocal Academy, Musiktheater Bavaria, and the Druid City Opera Workshop. She was the music director and pianist for Mozart’s Così fan tutte for the Rochester-based initiative Midsummer Night Opera. In summer 2016 she attended SongFest in Los Angeles, where she worked with collaborative pianists Margo Garrett, Martin Katz, and Roger Vignoles. She made her NPR debut as a fellow at SongFest’s inaugural Hidden Valley Winter Institute in January 2017 under the mentorship of Sir Thomas Allen and Graham Johnson. As a Teaching Artist with Arizona Opera’s OperaTunity troupe, she brought the story of Rusalka to thousands of elementary school students. In summer 2018, she created the title role of Lorelai (William Clay) with Arizona Chamber Opera. Previous premiers include leading roles in chamber operas Mignon (also by Clay), The Necklace (Thomas Conroy), and OperAntics (Dorothy Gaynor).   In spring 2019, Cassandra returns to Arizona Opera in La Traviata and Le Nozze di Figaro. Previous season credits include Madama Butterfly, Rusalka, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Falstaff, La Bohème, Eugene Onegin, and Die Zauberflöte. She has performed in the chorus of several shows including Le Nozze Di Figaro in Rome and HMS Pinafore with ASU’s Lyric Opera Theater. Melissa has been teaching elementary general music for 13 years. He attended Arizona State University from 2004 to 2008 before pursuing a career in medicine. He performed the role of Papageno in The Magic Flute at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and in L'elisir d'amore and Ghost Voices at ASU and was also selected as the bass soloist in Haydn’s The Creation, Handel’s Messiah, and selections from Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, among others. Around the valley he has also performed as soloist in Mozart’s Requiem, several Bach cantatas, and many productions of Messiah. He has been an adjunct voice instructor at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and was a member of the Phoenix Chorale under the direction of Charles Bruffy for one season before leaving the ensemble to attend medical school. During medical school, he continued to sing in local ensembles, including the Royal Renaissance Singers in Phoenix and Mesa Community College’s Canto Vivo Choir. He graduated from medical school in 2015 and is completing a residency in internal medicine in Phoenix. In addition to singing with Euphony, she serves as the group’s operations manager and has been integral in organizing the ensemble’s inaugural concerts. Last spring, Melanie sang the role of Gretel in Arizona Opera’s OperaTunity program in schools all around Arizona. As part of ASU’s new works reading program, she has performed in Behold the Man and The Halloween Tree. She sang the role of Lillie in Babe: An Olympian Musical at both Arizona State University and the National Women’s Music Festival, and La Babette in a reading of the musical Big Red Sun. Melanie has brought her years of ballet and modern dance training to the opera stage, appearing as a dancer in Arizona Opera’s Rusalka, and as Galatea in a site-specific choreographed adaptation of Handel’s Acis and Galatea at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Additional performances include Owen Wingrave (Mrs. Julian) and The Magic Flute (Papagena) with Arizona State University, and The Gypsy Baron (Arsena), and Dido and Aeneas (Belinda) with the Mittelsächsisches Theater-Freiberg, Germany. At Belmont, she performed the roles of the Third Spirit in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Sylvane in Lehar’s The Merry Widow, the title role in Menotti’s The Medium, and Prince Orlofsky in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. In between bouts of higher education she studied in Italy, performed in the chorus of Carmen and Madame Butterfly with the Phoenix Opera, served a performing mission in Historical Nauvoo, Illinois, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, joined the Arizona Broadway Theatre production of The Secret Garden as Mrs. Shelley and began to build up her private studio of voice and piano students. Deciding more education would help her in her desire to mold and teach the next generation of performers, she attended ASU in pursuit of a the master of music in vocal performance/pedagogy degree. These intensive programs, along with encouragement from local musicians and teachers in rural Georgia, gave him the desire to pursue music as a profession. CodyRay now holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance (voice) from State University of New York at Fredonia, along with a Master of Music Degree in Opera from Arizona State University. He has performed with organizations such as Arizona Opera, Cincinnati Opera, American Lyric Theater, and the Aspen Summer Music Festival. He has collaborated with such musicians Rufus Wainwright, internationally acclaimed baritone Gordon Hawkins, and author of The Naked Voice: A Wholistic Approach to Singing, W. Stephen Smith, to name a few.
